 Observation research group

Detailed tests of the telescope are done at the beginning of each year, including pointing, tracking and antenna efficiency, temperature and stability of the receiver system, back-end parameters, etc. Then the overall assessment of the system is carried out with the results obtained from standard sources.

Meticulous telescope status reports are released to users before the observation season. The main parameters are regularly measured during the observation season.

Qinghai station receives proposal by email dlhproposal@pmo.ac.cn throughout the year, and available observing time for externals are more than 240 days. Operation maintenance group stuff assist the chief scientist to make observation plans monthly. And the group leader needs to consult the chief scientist, if there is a temporary adjustment. Program peer review system based on the international convention will be implemented henceforth.

Observation research group members are responsible for assisting users in observing, data backup, establishing of data platform, training of data processing, archiving and publication. Also they need to improve the testing software of the telescope and data processing, put forward transformation plans then make the relevant observation better. Besides, they need to have more creations on improving the limit of detectability, followed by the suggestions from research groups.

Proposed by observation research group, Long-term observations or surveys that have great scientific significance and cost plenty of telescope time can be “base station project”. After the argument, the project will be executed and submitted to the whole station. Under the premise of finishing above tasks, cooperative projects and personnel training are raised. The chief scientist will select participants in the projects if the base agrees.

 SONG group

Chinese SONG project is a section of the Stellar Observation Network Group (SONG), which consists of 1m telescope, lucky imaging system, high-resolution spectrograph, and the 50cm Binocular Network (50BiN) telescope of China project. The 1 meter telescope of the SONG project integrates a series of new techniques such as thin-mirror active optics system, lucky imaging system, high precision radial velocities measurement using an iodine cell as velocity reference (R=60000-120000,RV=1m/s). This device serves two primary scientific goals in stellar physics: (1) based on lucky imaging system, searching for exoplanets using gravitational microlensing; (2) based on radial velocity, studying the internal stellar structure using astroseismology. These are two typical scientific targets in time-domain astronomy of which results are dependent on a network of telescopes. The 50BiN project is to install a 50-centimeter binocular telescope at each SONG node so as to constitute an automatic global network for full-time domain and long-timing multi-color photometric surveys. SONG group, led by Qinghai station and SONG project, is responsible for both observation and equipment maintenance of the project.

 Operation maintenance group

Operation maintenance group is the core business unit of Qinghai station. The duty of the staff who belongs to this group is to ensure the safety and stability of the 13.7m radio telescope, submit daily reports in time, improve backups of the telescope devices to make sure the telescope running as usual, guarantee the clear passage for the communication system and maintain the cyber security. The group leader is entitled to ask for assistance, such as on duty, from other groups. Innovation post in the operation maintenance group is not involved in other groups’ work or cooperative projects with external companies.

  Logistics service group

Logistics service group is responsible for the fixed assets management, financial affairs, funds audit, fire security work, vehicles driving, canteen management and supplies procurement, water, electricity and heating supplies, infrastructure projects, public hygiene, landscaping, library and repository management, and receptions.
